About

This Online Introduction to Pointed Pen Calligraphy features 5 hours of lesson time over 2 weeks, and an intimate class size of 7 participants. It will walk you through a few selected pointed pen calligraphy styles and understand the basic fundamentals that’ll allow you to create a variety of modern and traditional styles, depending on your preferences.

Starting with knowing your tools, materials and proper writing posture to help you achieve beautiful writing, you will learn throughout the lessons how to use the calligraphy tools to form basic strokes, letters and words. The main focus of the lesson will be on lowercase letters and refining technique. At the end of the class, we will also go through some Uppercase letter demonstrations, basic layout and planning tips for writing quotes if time permits.

Digital learning aids

• An online classroom will be set up for students to access class content

• After each session, a scanned copy of the instructor’s notes will be uploaded

• Classes will be recorded and a video playback will be available for students to watch

• After each session, an optional task will be assigned, and individualised feedback for each student will be given if they complete it

• A digital copy of worksheets, guidelines and exemplars will be uploaded onto the online classroom

• All classroom content will be available for all students to view and/or download at their leisure for up to 1 month after the class commences.

Workshop with materials kit

For students in Singapore, you can have the option of purchasing a pointed pen starter kit together with your workshop ticket, which will be shipped to your address a few days before the workshop commences. The workshop kit includes:

2x calligraphy writing nibs

1x 2-in-1 Calligraphy Holder (Oblique & straight interchangeable)

1x Bottle of calligraphy ink

1x Set of class notes, practice sheets and exemplars (printed on premium calligraphy paper)

1x Practice pad

1x Watercolour card (handpainted by instructor)

Access to class content and digital resources will be available for all students for 1 month after the last session of the class.

Workshop only

Should you already have your own tools, you are more than welcome to join in the lesson as well. The worksheets for the lesson will be provided to you in digital format, and all you have to do is print out the worksheets at home!

Students outside Singapore

While we are still working on being able to ship internationally, we have curated a list of online stored through which you can purchase the materials needed to join the class. All the class content and worksheets will be made available to you digitally as well, so you can print them as many times as you wish for practice.

Alternatively, if you have your own materials already, you are very welcome to join us in the workshop session!
